Fish & Chips Tacos are one of the three recipes that @kathyjollimore and I wrote, styled and shot for SEAFOOD MONTH this July. Corn tortillas, cabbage slaw, @boxingrock Hunky Dory-battered line-caught haddock, homemade chipotle tartar sauce, Hickory Stick 'chips' and a squeeze of fresh lime. Check out this gorgeous dish we made inspired by Turkish Cilbir. We strained @astroyogourt Balkan-style yogourt through cheesecloth to make it even thicker and then we added garlic cloves that we crushed with a mortar and pestle. We topped the yogourt with a runny braised egg, garlic scape pesto and Harissa-brown butter, inspired by @ottolenghi's chilli butter recipes posted on The @guardian website a few weeks ago. Served with a couple of slices of toasted @acebakery baguette, I can’t even begin to describe the sheer depth of flavour happening on this plate. 🍳 . . . . . food styling : @kathyjollimore photography : Kelly Neil
JULY is SEAFOOD MONTH in Nova Scotia. I can’t eat scallops which REALLY sucks when you live in NS. Most restaurant seafood chowders have scallops, so, until I made my own, I’d never eaten chowder for fear of getting sick. The best part of making my own chowder was that I could add DOUBLE the lobster in place of scallops and it was seriously one of the best things I’ve EVER made. @kathyjollimore made pesto with these twirling garlic scapes she got from @offbeetfarm. She left pieces of scape jusssst big enough to retain some texture while a sprinkle of crunchy coarse sea salt elevated the pesto to the next level. Happy Sunday morning! It’s cool and grey here in Dartmouth which kind of sucks because I was hoping for a family beach day so now we think we need to move on to Plan B. We're not really sure what Plan B is yet, but to be honest, I don’t really care what we do as long as we're together. The older I get, the more I realize, that taking time is all that really matters. Taking time to be with my family. Taking time to play with my daughter. Taking time to listen, talk, make eye contact. Taking time to gather bunches of wildflowers. Taking time to stop and pay attention to my life. This seafood tablescape @kathyjollimore and I styled and shot for @tasteofns is a benchmark for us as @wildcardcreative. When we were happy with the final edit, we just stared at the shot in wonder, amazed that we had created something so beautiful out of nothing. Five beautiful @luckettvineyards wines paired with five small plates by @murphyshalifax, plus fruit, cheese, olives, mussels and music on a two hour sail around the #halifaxharbour and the #northwestarm. We've lived in our apartment since October and I still have some artwork and other pieces I love to hang on the walls. I put together this little arrangement today with glass and stones from Inverness Beach plus two feathers I found in @kathyjollimore's yard last week.

Nova 7 Brunch at EDNA

I've been working with Benjamin Bridge since October and a few weeks ago I finally got to photograph the 'toast of Nova Scotia' - Nova 7. 

More pics are coming soon but I think this one is so soft, warm and pretty - perfect for Mother's Day!
